All About Side-By-Side Geek…

What is this Side-By-Side Geek thing?

Side-By-Side Geek was born from hours of frustration with the process of buying a computer. There are so many different choices out there, from so many different manufacturers and vendors, that it becomes pretty difficult to make an informed decision on a computer. You’ve got numbers and codes coming at you from all directions, and different websites present that information in different formats. That’s where Side-By-Side Geek comes in.

The Side-By-Side Geek Library is an always-growing collection of laptop and desktop computers (other gizmos and gadgets coming soon!) that you can browse and make comparisons on. All the specification categories listed for each type of item (desktop, laptop, etc) are the same, so you are able to make a side-by-side comparison of items, on one screen, without flipping back and forth between different computer manufacturer websites. The idea is that you’ll be able to spend less time searching for specs, and more time actually comparing and deciding which computer to buy.

How does Side-By-Side Geek work?

The centerpiece of Side-By-Side Geek is the Library. This is where you’ll find information on hundreds of laptop and desktop computers, with other tech gadgets, such as cell phones, person media players, and PDA’s, coming soon. In the Library, you can browse for items and make comparisons between them with just a few clicks. Where does the Library information come from?

The Library database is populated by hand with information gathered from various sources. Side-By-Side Geek strives for accuracy in the information presented on the site. We’re double-checking and updating all the time to make sure we give the best, most accurate information we can. We do make mistakes, however, so if you spot something that’s not quite right, please let us know!

Hold on! This computer/gadget’s information is wrong!

As hard as we try, sometimes we end up goofing up a spec. If you find something wrong with one of the library entries, please feel free to use the Contact Us form page to let us know what we biffed. All we ask is you include the make and model of the machine we mess up on, what spec category is incorrect, and what the spec should be. We’ll work as quickly as we can to correct any mistakes we’ve made.

Do you guys sell computers and stuff?

Nope. We’re not a retailer, reseller, or provider of any hardware of any kind. All we do is provide information for people who are shopping for hardware. As a convenience, we do provide a link to an online retailer selling the item, however we make no claim that the price the retailer lists is the best possible price for that item. We’re not selling it, we’re just making it easier for you to buy it. It is up to you to find the best possible price.

Why aren’t there any prices listed?

Since we’re not a retailer, we cannot provide any information on current prices for any of the items we list in our Library. We do provide links to retailers that, at the time we listed the item in the Library, were selling the item. We make no promise that any item listed in the Library will be for sale at the time you look at it, and the links we provide to retailers are provided strictly as a convenience to you, our user.
